Outside In | No Borders - Nandini Nair

Outside In | No Borders is a D.Cast series where we explore the lives, perspectives, and reflections of a diverse range of New Zealand designers who live and work overseas.

In this instalment of Outside in | No Borders, Brendan Jarvis PDINZ, the Managing Founder of The Space InBetween speaks to Nandini Nair.

Nanz recently completed the Fulbright science and innovation scholarship that she was awarded in 2019 and, as part of her scholarship, she earned a Master of Design from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University.

Until just recently, after grad school, Nanz was a Senior Product Designer at Laurel in Los Angeles, a startup on a mission to give back time to legal and professional services firms, through machine learning and automation.

At Laurel, Nanz led the design of the internal tools that streamlined how the core features of the product were configured. She also created the design system that made it possible to design and build the product at speed.

In 2011, Nanz graduated with a Bachelor of Design in visual communication from Massey University and started a freelance practice specialising in the design of social and environmental impact projects, including for Papa Reo, CoGo, Ackama, UNICEF and Shakti Women’s Refuge.

Nanz believes that design has the power to address some of the world’s greatest challenges. She has a passion for brining clarity and meaning to ambiguity and complexity, in particular through well-crafted digital experiences.
