Haythornthwaite has to be viewed as a New Zealand design pioneer. Whether it be medicine, science, art, manufacturing or domestic fields, in todays parlance, much of what he achieved can be described as 'design-led'.

From ideation sketches to form models and working prototypes, Haythornthwaite’s creative process illuminates the professional skill-set of the hands-on pre-computer era.

In 2016 Peter Haythornthwaite was handed a Queens Birthday Honours medal for his services to Design over the last 40 years.

LOMAK - (Light Operated Mouse And Keyboard)

Peter Haythornthwaite led the creativelab design team, and together they designed a helpful tool to those in need. The LOMAK, allowed people with physical disabilities to use a computer without any adaptation or special software. The LOMAK was recognised on an international scale, and received multiple awards, including Gold at the 2007 IDEA(International Design Excellence Awards).
