Best of the Best Designers Speak® - Video - Extended Whānau and Maree Sheehan

The Best Design Awards are a major feature of the local design calendar and some of last year's winners have toured the country to offer first-hand insights into their projects.

The 2021 series was recorded on video. Here is one from the series of twenty recorded.

Ōtairongo
Tyrone Ohia PDINZ Extended Whānau and
Maree Sheehan

Artist Maree Sheehan discusses the conceptual foundations of her exhibition Ōtairongo as it sought to portray a multidimensionality to wahine Māori through audio portraiture. This artistic inquiry looked at some of the effects of colonisation and the imposition of non-Māori concepts on Māori women and used highly innovative techniques to capture, aurally, a more complete picture of what these women represent. Tyrone Ohia (Extended Whānau) took the stage after Maree and spoke in te reo about his contribution to this project.
